About Us

A legacy of courage and service

Founded in 1947, the La Jolla Volunteer Fire Department has been the backbone of emergency response for one of San Diego's most beloved communities. What started as a small group of concerned residents has grown into a highly trained, professional volunteer force.

Every member of our department is a volunteer — firefighters, EMTs, and support staff who give their time, training, and energy to keep La Jolla safe. We respond to calls, conduct safety inspections, teach community workshops, and stand ready around the clock.
